Sony to release 100mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.8 for A7 system cameras in March
Sony is adding two lenses to its range for system cameras with a full-frame sensor. The 100 mm f/2.8 in the G Master series has an apodizing lens element that should provide beautiful blur. Sony presents the 85mm f/1.8 as a lightweight portrait lens.
The 85mm f/1.8 is a lighter and cheaper alternative to the existing FE 85mm f/1.4 GM variant. It costs about 1900 euros and weighs 820 grams. The new model is less bright and will not get a place in the G Master series. On the other hand, the FE 85 mm f/1.8 will be on the market for 650 euros. The weight is not specified in the press release.
In the G Master series, the 100 mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS appears, with optical image stabilization and a special design that should ensure beautiful background blur. Sony uses an eleven-blade diaphragm and an apodizing lens element for this. The lens can handle autofocus using contrast detection and phase detection. A built-in macro switch enables pictures with a magnification of 0.25x. The 100 mm f/2.8 has a suggested retail price of 2000 euros.
In addition to the lenses, Sony introduces a new flash, the HVL-F45RM, which can communicate radiographically. The €480 flash works up to a distance of thirty meters and can be used as a transmitter or receiver within the Sony flash system. Sony will launch the lenses and flash in March.
