Sony to bring game streaming service to Samsung smart TVs in 2015
Sony and Samsung are working together to stream games to TVs. In the first half of 2015, Sony’s PlayStation Now service will be coming to a number of Samsung smart TVs.
The game streaming service on TVs will be available as an app on Samsung’s Smart Hub platform for smart TVs. The app includes support for Sony’s DualShock 4 wireless controller, as well as all the functionality of PlayStation Now, including in-game trophies, online play with friends and online saving of game progress.
Users can choose from the entire collection of PlayStation 3 titles from the Now service. The feature will be available first to users in the US and Canada, and a limited number of smart TVs will receive the app, but Samsung’s models are unknown.
Sony’s move is striking: Samsung is a major competitor in the smart TV market. At the same time, the partnership significantly expands the reach of PlayStation Now; Samsung is the market leader in TVs. PlayStation Now is coming to Europe in 2015.
