Sony shows its first Airpeak drone, which is aimed at filmmakers. According to Sony, it is the smallest drone that can carry a Sony Alpha camera. The manufacturer wants to develop Airpeak drones in collaboration with professional photographers and filmmakers.

Sony has put a video online showing how the Airpeak drone is used in combination with a Sony Alpha A7S III camera. That camera weighs about 700 grams without a lens. The Airpeak is a relatively large quadcopter, comparable to the professional models of DJI, for example, but Sony has not yet announced technical details.

In November last year, Sony already announced plans to release its own drones under the Airpeak name. Sony is now showing its first drone at the virtual CES fair and the Japanese manufacturer has put an Airpeak website online.

Sony wants to start the Airpeak project in the spring of 2021. It is a new business unit and Sony says it is seeking feedback from professional photographers and filmmakers to help develop drones. It is not yet known when Sony will actually release its own drone and what it will cost.
