Sony says that dimming problem of A1 OLED televisions has been solved
Sony says it has implemented a solution to the phenomenon that certain OLED televisions from the A1 series apply too aggressive dimming when static content, such as a logo or HUD, comes into the picture. New firmware has solved the problem according to Sony.
The European division of Sony has issued a statement to the website Flatpanelshd in which the company indicates that the problems with too aggressively dimming OLED televisions of the A1 series have been solved. The manufacturer reports that it has released a solution with firmware version 6.5629, so that the dimming algorithms of the A1 and AF8 are the same. This means that both models have to perform exactly the same. The AF8 did not suffer from the problems.
Sony already announced in June that it was working on a solution to the dimming problem in A1 OLED televisions. This problem occurs for at least some of the users who have installed firmware with version number 6.2858.
Flatpaneldhd reports that the new firmware solves the problems for many A1 owners, but some users report that some form of dimming still occurs, especially during sports images or playing games. This may be related to the fact that the new firmware has been gradually released since September 5, so that perhaps not all A1 owners have been able to download it yet. By the end of September, all owners should have received the new firmware as an ota update.
