Sony removes HDCP protection when capturing PS4 gameplay footage
Sony is working on a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that will make it possible to disable HDCP when capturing gameplay footage. It will also be possible to save videos and screenshots on a USB stick.
Sony announces the plans via its own PlayStation Blog. The console builder announces that it will fulfill an old promise; the option to output gameplay footage via HDMI. The new firmware offers the option to disable the high-bandwidth digital content protection, which protects the HDMI output of the console. Furthermore, with the update the firmware is provided with a simple video editor, with which recorded clips can be edited. If you want, you can also save those clips via USB to an external device.
Sony also looks to the future. For example, Sony hopes in future patches to offer more options to players who want to stream gameplay images. This makes it possible to send the images via Twitch and Ustream in 720p. In addition, Sony wants to add the option to save Twitch streams.
