Sony has released the Xperia XA1 midrange smartphone in the Benelux. The phone has thin bezels on the side and a 23-megapixel camera on the back. The device runs on a MediaTek soc.

The 23-megapixel camera in the XA1 probably has the same IMX300 sensor as used in the Sony Xperia Z5 and X series phones from previous years. The sensor has a size of 1/2.3 “with pixels of 1.08 microns in size. Sony has placed an f/2.0 lens in front of it. The phone can record videos in up to 1080p resolution.

The screen is an LCD with a diagonal of 5″ and a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The phone is 14.5cm high and 6.7cm wide. This makes it the same width as an iPhone 7, which has a screen diagonal of 4.7″ .

Sony has equipped the phone with a Helio P20-soc from MediaTek, an octacore with four Cortex A53 cores at 2.3GHz and four cores at 1.6GHz, assisted by a Mali T880MP2 GPU. The phone has 3GB of memory and 32GB emmc storage. Sony uses a suggested retail price of 279 euros for the device.

The Japanese manufacturer presented the device at the end of February during the Mobile World Congress telecom fair. The phone follows the Xperia XA from last year, which was also characterized by narrow screen edges.
