Sony has released a mobile version of the classic game Lemmings for iOS and Android. The game is free to play, but includes microtransactions and an energy system that must persuade players to pay for replay sessions.

The new Lemmings game is optimized for touchscreens and will contain “thousands” of new levels thanks to procedurally generated content, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment and Sad Puppy Limited. When completing the levels, the player has to convert enemy planets into more pleasant environments for the lemmings. In addition, the player can discover and replenish tribes of lemmings.

The gameplay is very similar to the original from 1991, but a bit simplified. The game contains the necessary in-app purchases including loot boxes. The amounts for items vary from 0.89 euros to no less than 105 euros. In addition, many players complain about the energy system: if the energy level reaches zero due to game actions, there is the option to pay 7 dollars to be able to play again for two hours.

The first version of Lemmings appeared in 1991 for the Commodore Amiga, made by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis. In 1993, Sony acquired Psygnosis and acquired the rights to Lemmings.

Lemmings is available immediately for iOS and Android.
