Sony releases Glass Sound Speaker speaker in the Benelux

Sony has presented the LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker at the CES fair, a design speaker made of ‘organic glass’ with hi-res audio. Unlike its predecessor, the LSPX-S1, this model is also coming to the Benelux.

With the LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker, the housing vibrates along with the sound waves. In combination with Sony’s Advanced Vertical Driver technology, this delivers room-filling sound that is reproduced in 360°, according to the manufacturer. The loudspeaker is partly made of ‘organic glass’, or the plastic polymethyl methacrylate, which is also known under brand names such as Perspex and Plexiglas.

The wireless speaker is compatible with high-resolution audio sources and has a Push & Play function to stream the most played songs from Spotify Connect, without having to search for them. The rechargeable battery of the device lasts up to eight hours. To create a soothing atmosphere, the LSPX-S2 has a setting for a candlelight effect.

The new Glass Sound Speaker is the successor to the LSPX-S1, which Sony regularly featured at IFA and CES, but which has never been available with us. The LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker will come to the Benelux and will be available from May for 600 euros.

The LSPX-S2 and S1 are not the first ‘glass’ speakers that Sony releases. In 2008, the company already introduced the Sountina at the IFA fair, an imposing 180 centimeter high glass cylinder with 360° surround sound. At the time, that speaker had a price tag of 1 million Japanese yen, converted about 8,000 euros.
