Sony releases app for streaming PlayStation 4 games to iPhone and iPad
Sony has released the iOS app PS4 Remote Play app. The app allows PlayStation 4 owners to stream games to their iPhone or iPad via Remote Play. The app only works over WiFi, but the devices don’t have to be on the same network.
The PS4 Remote Play app is similar to the one Sony previously released for Windows and macOS. The software allows PlayStation 4 owners to play games on other devices through streaming. The games run on the console itself and it must be connected to a fast network. The receiving device must be connected to WiFi, the app will not work via a data connection.
There is no support for DualShock controllers with the iOS Remote Play app. This is the case with the PC version. It is possible to control the games with virtual buttons on the screen of the iPhone or iPad, but there is also support for mfi controllers.
According to Sony, the iOS app can also be used for text and voice input, via the virtual keyboard and microphone of the Apple hardware. The app works with all iPhones and iPads with iOS 12.1 or higher.
Sony already released a PS4 Remote Play app for Android in 2014, but it only works with a limited number of Xperia phones and tablets.
