Sony publishes list of games with PS4 Pro support

Sony has published a list of games that will be optimized for the PlayStation 4 Pro. The optimizations consist of better frame rates, higher resolutions and improved graphics. In most games, the optimizations are implemented by means of an update.

The list includes 41 games, but some of these are expansions of other games, such as The Last of Us: Left Behind and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Sony promises that more than 45 games will have optimization for the PlayStation 4 Pro before the end of the year, including Watch Dogs 2, Killing Floor 2, The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV. The list on the PlayStation Blog will be updated as more game support becomes available for the new console.

Sony indicates that from 2017 all new first party games will bring optimizations for the new console. The company lists Nioh, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, For Honor, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone and Gran Turismo Sport. Third party game studios are not required to optimize their games for the PlayStation 4 Pro, so not all games in the future will bring improvements to the console.

The PlayStation 4 Pro will be available from November 10 for 399 euros. The console is equipped with an improved APU, whose CPU runs at a higher clock speed and the GPU has twice as many compute units. Furthermore, the console has 1GB extra DDR3 memory, on which system applications can run.

Guerilla Games has given examples in a blog of what the optimizations can mean for its game Horizon: Zero Dawn. When the console is connected to a 1080p television, it uses supersampling, a technique that renders the image at a higher resolution than the screen and then reduces it to the size of the television. This gives a natural image without jaggies. The studio is also working on improving shadows. When the PlayStation 4 Pro is connected to a 4k TV, the game will be shown in 4k.
