Sony presents two ultra-wide-angle lenses for E-mount cameras
Sony announces two ultra-wide-angle lenses for its system cameras. The 16-35mm f/2.8 and 12-24mm f/4 are both suitable for cameras with a full-frame sensor. The bright 16-35mm is part of the G-Master series.
With the G-Master series, Sony is targeting professional photographers. The 16-35mm joins the 24-70mm and 70-200mm in the same series, which also have an aperture of f/2.8. The wide-angle zoom features a lens design with five aspherical elements, including the largest XA element Sony has made to date.
Sony claims that the lens therefore produces photos that are sharp from corner to corner. The diaphragm consists of eleven blades and the 16-35 mm contains a floating focus system with two direct drive super sonic wave focus motors. The lens is sealed against dust and moisture, and has a fluorine coating on the front lens element, making it easy to clean. The 16-35 mm f/2.8 GM will be on the market in August for a suggested retail price of 2700 euros.
Together with the 16-35 mm, Sony presents the 12-24 mm f/4 G. The lens weighs about 566 grams and has four aspherical lens elements. The wide-angle zoom has a single focus motor and, like the professional lens, is sealed against dust and moisture. From July, the 12-24 mm f/4 is for sale for a suggested retail price of 2000 euros.
