Sony presents OLED and LCD TVs for 2020 and comes with 48″ OLED model
Sony has presented its televisions for this year at CES. Like competitor LG, the Japanese manufacturer is introducing an OLED TV with a screen diagonal of 48 “for the first time, making this the smallest OLED TV for consumers in 2020.
The A9 will be Sony’s 48″ OLED TV for this year. This 4k TV features the Picture Processor X1
Ultimate, the image processor that also comes in other high-end televisions from the manufacturer. The A9 supports Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, and the Ambient Optimization feature adjusts both picture and sound quality to room conditions, taking into account the lighting and objects that may absorb the sound. Furthermore, this 48″ OLED TV supports Airplay 2, HomeKit and Amazon Alexa and X-Motion Clairty is integrated to smoothly display images of sports matches, for example.

The above also applies to the A8, the OLED TV for 2020 that comes in models with a diagonal of 55 “and 65”. Unlike the A9, these 4k televisions have Acoustic Surface Audio, where the sound comes from the screen, a technology that Sony has been using in its OLED TVs for a number of years. The televisions have two subwoofers and run on Android 9 Pie; the latter also applies to the A9.

Sony also comes with the ZH8, an 8k LCD TV that also gets the Picture Processor X1 Ultimate, where images are upscaled to 8k in real time via a database from Sony. The ZH8 has tweeters that vibrate the frame, so that the sound seems to come directly from the screen. Ambient Optimization is also present here and users also get an illuminated remote control made of aluminum.

Sony is also introducing a number of new 4K LCD TVs, including the XH95 and XH90. Just like the ZH8, these televisions have fald, but the manufacturer does not report how many individually dimmable zones the models have. The XH95 also gets the aluminum remote control and comes with four different screen diagonals: 49″, 55″, 65″, 75″, and 85″. The XH95 models from 55″ are equipped with technology that should improve the viewing angles.
The XH90 is according to Sony a mid-range, comes in 55″, 65″, 75″, and 85″ and is according to the manufacturer “compatible with 4k and 120fps”, although that will require a future software update; This probably concerns the HDMI 2.1 capacity and the other televisions mentioned in this message are equipped with HDMI 2.1 as standard, although Sony does not say anything about it. Release periods and suggested retail prices for the Benelux will be announced at a later date.
