Sony announced on Friday that the Sony Pictures network, which was hit by a major hack at the end of last year, will be back online next month. The Japanese company says that the recovery will take longer due to, among other things, defective hardware.

In a statement it submitted to Japanese authorities, the company said it was still suffering from last year’s massive cyber attack. The devastating attack shut down the network and damaged hardware, Sony said. Most critical systems will be operational again in early February.

Sony Pictures called in the FBI after the cyber attack. At the beginning of this month, he claimed that North Korea is believed to be behind the attack. The service relied, among other things, on an analysis of the malware used, which would show similarities with other Korean code. North Korea still vehemently denies.

In the hack, malicious parties managed to make the computers of thousands of Sony employees inaccessible by deleting data. In addition, they stole and published the data of 47,000 Sony employees and former employees, including salary data.
