Sony mentions PC version Uncharted 4 in presentation to investors
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seems to be coming to PC in due course. This exclusive Sony title can currently only be played on the PlayStation 4 and 5, but in a presentation from Sony the title is mentioned under a heading ‘more planned PC releases’.
The investor presentation includes a slide on new growth drivers, highlighting specific PlayStation Studios titles coming to PC and mobile, not consoles. That’s what Horizon Zero Dawn is called, a title of which a PC version appeared in August last year.
In addition, Days Gone and Uncharted 4 are mentioned for the PC. The zombie game Days Gone, released two years ago for the PS4, was released for Windows earlier this month. A release date for a PC version of Uncharted 4 is not given and other details are also missing. Later in the presentation, a logo of God of War: Ragnarok is also shown. This seems to have confirmed that this will be the new title of the upcoming God of War game.
The presentation also shows that Sony expects the standard edition of the PlayStation 5 to reach the tipping point from June where there is no longer a loss on sales of the console. Total revenues are expected to equal total expenses from next month. This is the version including disc tray for games and UHD Blu-rays. That version costs 499 euros and is 100 euros more expensive than the PS5 without a disc tray. In view of this, it seems a more difficult story to reach the tipping point with this cheaper version in the short term.
This expectation from Sony is striking in that regard, because the company officially admitted in February when the company announced its quarterly figures that the PS5 was being sold below cost. Sony said it decided to sell the console “at a strategic price point,” where the price was lower than the cost of production.
Selling consoles below cost is common with the release of a new generation. Recently, in the context of the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games, Microsoft announced that it also sells its consoles at a loss and that it has never made a profit from the sale of Xbox consoles.
