Sony makes streaming PS5 games available this month via PS Plus Premium
It will be possible to stream PS5 games via the cloud later this month. Sony will soon make that option generally available as part of the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. The console maker has been testing this feature for some time.
Sony confirms in a blog post that streaming PS5 games will become possible this month. This is a phased release. Sony uses a target date of October 23 in Europe, the manufacturer says.
Users with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription will now be able to stream ‘supported’ PS5 games from the PS Plus Game Catalog, as well as trial versions of select games. It will also be possible to stream ‘select supported’ games purchased through the PlayStation Store. According to Sony, this concerns ‘hundreds of PS5 titles’.
Users will only be able to stream those games on a PS5 console when the feature is released, but will not have to download the titles in question. Streaming is possible at a maximum 4k resolution, but 1440p, 1080p and 720p are also supported. The function runs at 60fps and supports both SDR and HDR. Other PS5 features, such as 3D audio, are also supported.
Sony has been testing PS5 game streaming for some time; the manufacturer already announced the arrival of that function in June. However, the company did not say at the time when the feature would become generally available to all PS Plus Premium subscribers.
