Sony is working on new Home launcher for Xperia smartphones

Sony is developing a new Xperia Home Application, the company confirms. This makes it clear that Sony is not switching to using a bare Android version for its Xperia smartphones.

Because Sony is developing a new Home launcher, the existing launcher will no longer receive new functionality, Sony’s Erika Prymus confirms. It was announced on Tuesday that Sony had stopped the development of its current Android skin or at least put it in the maintenance phase, but the company did not disclose the reason at the time.

That led to speculation that Sony might switch to the stock Android launcher for its Xperia smartphone. While that’s not the case, Sony does seem to be heading in a very different direction with the Home launcher, given the rigorous move to completely ditch the existing Home launcher and develop a brand new one. Details about the new Xperia Home Application is not yet disclosed by the company.
