Sony is working on a solution to block Fortnite accounts on Xbox and Switch

Sony says it is working on a solution that gamers “understand and accept” around the blocking of Fortnite accounts of players who have ever logged into a PlayStation. Those people will never be able to play on an Xbox or Nintendo Switch after logging into PS4.

You can transfer an account to iOS, Android or a Windows PC, but Sony blocks the transfer of Fortnite accounts to the Xbox or Switch. As a result, users cannot take their progress with them. Crossplay in Fortnite with PS4 players is also not possible from Xbox and Switch, but that is also possible with iOS, Android and Windows.

Sony says it has heard the feedback from gamers in a statement to Eurogamer. “We’re looking at a lot of opportunities. As you can imagine, the circumstances involve more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll come up with a solution that understands and accepts our community of gamers, while supporting our business.”

It is still unknown what that solution will look like, but based on the statement it seems that crossplay and transferring accounts will not just be possible. Enabling crossplay between Xbox One and PS4 is in any case not a technical problem, because it was still possible last year. Fortnite came out a year ago and now has 125 million players.
