Sony is working on a solution for dimming problem on A1 OLED televisions
Sony has indicated that it is working on a solution for the phenomenon that certain OLED televisions in its A1 line apply too aggressive dimming after applying a certain firmware update. His AF8 model would not have been affected.
The company tells Flatpanelshd, “We are aware of the issue and our engineering team is investigating the A1’s dimming performance to resolve it in a future firmware update. The AF8 does not exhibit the issue.” The site writes that the phenomenon occurs in users who have installed the firmware with version number 6.2858. That was the update that introduced support for Dolby Vision. Users on Reddit and the Sony forum report that the screen automatically dims over time. It is unclear how many users are affected by this.
According to Flatpanelshd, the phenomenon occurs when fixed elements are in the picture, such as a logo or a hud in games. Sony would have previously released an update to fix the problems. But this update, with version 6.5603, did not fix the problems. The site further states that there are also indications that the AF8 suffers from the same problem, but states that it has not investigated this model.
Sony announced the AF8 at CES. Those models came out in April for 2900 and 3900 euros. The A1 is a slightly older model, which came out last year. Sony introduced the 55″ and 65″ versions for four thousand and six thousand euros respectively.
