Sony would like to announce its WF-1000XM5 earbuds next week. The new version has multipoint support and is a lot smaller than its predecessors, WF-1000XM4. It came out two years ago.

Sony has a stream ready for next Monday with the title ‘the best silence drops’. The Japanese site dedicated to the event is called ‘All you need is 5ilent’, a clear reference to a fifth-generation product and to noise cancellation.

The upcoming release has been rumored for months. A Croatian online store has put the earplugs online for a price of 319 euros, and that is in line with an award that tech journalist Roland Quandt from WinFuture mentioned earlier. The WF-1000XM4 was released in 2021 for 279 euros.

The new earbuds offer multipoint, better noise cancellation and a smaller and lighter design, according to the rumors which The Walkman Blog has listed. The WF-X1000XM4 also has support for multipoint since a recent firmware update. The XM5 earphones weigh 5.9g and have so-called Dynamic Driver X drivers with a diameter of 8.4mm. Both earbuds have three microphones to pick up ambient noise and ensure that the active noise cancellation works properly.

The earbuds are said to support Sony HiRes audio and DSEE Extreme. In addition, the WF-1000XM5 is said to have bone conduction sensors and Precise Voice Pickup technology, which would always allow the wearer’s voice to be picked up during conversations, even in noisy environments. Sony’s earphones have type numbers with WF, while the headphones have type numbers with WH. The M5 stands for Mark 5, the fifth generation of this product.
