Sony introduces Xperia XZ1 Compact with 4.6″ screen and Snapdragon 835-soc
Sony has announced the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact at the IFA fair in Berlin. The smartphones have Sony’s Motion Eye cameras, which can shoot slow motion video at 960fps, among other things. Sony provides the smartphones with Android Oreo as standard.
The Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact are the successors to last year’s XZ and XZ Compact and Sony is targeting the mainstream segment, while Sony introduced the Xperia XZ Premium and XZs for the high-end market in February. Like the XZ Premium, the XZ1 and XZ1 Compact have the Snapdragon 835-soc.
In addition, both new smartphones have the Motion Eye camera system on board. It features a 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor with a 19-megapixel resolution, which can record 720p video at 960fps for a short time. The camera also supports 4k recording and offers electronic SteadyShot stabilization. The front camera of the XZ1 is a 13-megapixel model, while the XZ1 Compact has an 8-megapixel front camera, with an 18mm wide-angle lens with a 120-degree field of view.
The Xperia XZ1 has a 5.2″ screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and HDR. The dimensions are 156x77x7.9mm and the weight is 155 grams. This smartphone has 64GB storage and the micro-SD card slot can be used for a second SIM card The housing is made of metal.
The Xperia XZ1 Compact is a 4.6″ smartphone with 720p resolution, dimensions of 129x65x9.3 mm and a weight of 140 grams. Sony has opted for a housing of fiberglass and plastic for this model. Both devices have the Snapdragon 835 , 4GB ram and battery capacity of 2700mAh.The smartphones are water resistant based on the ip68 specification.With the compact Sony continues its tradition of providing a compact Android smartphone with high-end specifications.Something virtually no other manufacturer does.
Sony provides the smartphones with functionality that the company calls 3D Creator. Users can scan objects with the camera in 15 to 60 seconds and convert them into 3D images. They can then share the images, use 3D avatars or send objects to a 3D printer.
Sony will deliver the devices from September in white, black, pink and blue. The price of the XZ1 is 699 euros, that of the XZ1 Compact is 599 euros. The manufacturer immediately puts Android Oreo on the devices. In addition, the company announced that the Xperia X, X Performance, XZ, X Compact, XZ Premium, XZs, XA1, XA1 Ultra and Xperia Touch will also receive an update to Android 8.0.
Sony introduced a third smartphone at the IFA, the cheaper XA1 Plus. This is a 5.5″ smartphone with 1080p screen and a MediaTek helio P20 octacore. The device has a 23-megapixel camera with 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor and the front camera is an 8-megapixel variant. The amount of memory is 4GB and as far as storage is concerned, there is 32GB available. In the fall, Sony will make the XA1 Plus available in white, black and gold, for an unknown price and with Android 7, but at a later date the device will get Android 8.0
