Sony introduces four 4k TVs with HDR
Sony has announced its lineup of LCD TVs for 2019. It concerns four series of 4k TVs with HDR, with different screen sizes. Three of the new series run on the Android TV operating system.
The four new series are the XG83, XG81, XG80 and XG70. In all cases, these are 4K TVs with HDR, with support for HDR10 and Hlg. They also include Sony’s 4K X-Reality Pro techniques for upscaling images to 4k resolution. These techniques should, among other things, provide noise reduction.
The XG83 is the series with the most extensive features, while surprisingly it only consists of 43″ and 49″ TVs. The TVs in this series contain an X1 processor that enables ‘object-based’ HDR remasters. According to Sony, “the colors in the individual objects on the screen are analyzed and the contrast is adjusted accordingly.” In addition, unlike the other TVs, the XG83 has an aluminum housing. The other models have a housing that gives the impression of brushed aluminum.
The models in the XG83, XG81 and XG80 series run the Android TV operating system and support voice input via Google Assistant via the remote control. The XG70 doesn’t run on Android TV, but it does have a built-in internet browser and Netflix and YouTube apps.
Sony has not announced the prices yet.
