Sony introduces 4k action cam with BOSS image stabilization
Sony will present the FDR-X3000R at the IFA, an action camera with 4k movie function, which is equipped with Sony’s BOSS image stabilization. The device is equipped with a new sensor that has a 16:9 ratio and just enough pixels for the 4k movie function.
Sony already uses the Balanced Optical SteadyShot system in camcorders. The FDR-X3000R is the brand’s first action cam to use this technology. According to Sony, the Exmor R sensor in the camera is specifically designed for filming in 4k resolution. The chip has the 1/2.5″ format and it would be a new sensor. Sony has also made a new lens for the action camera, which would have less distortion. There are three positions with which the angle of view of the lens can be adjusted. can be adjusted: wide, medium and narrow.
The camera makes video files with a bit rate of 100Mbit/s in 4k resolution. In Full HD that is 50 Mbit/s. In full HD resolution, the maximum frame rate is 100 fps. Sony uses the xavc-s codec for capturing the images and states that the camera uses the same Bionz X image processor as the A7 system cameras. Sound is recorded with a built-in stereo microphone; there is also a microphone input for an external one.
Sony ships the X3000R with a new Live-View remote, which is 30 percent smaller than the previous model. This device has a small screen on which the image of the camera can be seen. The remote control can be attached to the wrist or to optional accessories, such as an adapter that can be placed on a bicycle handlebar. The actioncam can also be controlled with a smartphone or tablet, in combination with the PlayMemories Mobile app.
In combination with the supplied underwater housing, the X3000R can be used underwater up to 60 meters. Sony will launch the FDR-X3000R in November for a suggested retail price of 600 euros.
