Sony has announced a 24mm wide-angle lens with f/1.4 aperture. The compact and light lens is for system cameras with E-mount and comes from the G-Master series of the Japanese manufacturer.

The new lens in Sony’s G Master line measures 92.4×74.4mm and weighs 445 grams, making it the most compact and lightest in its class, according to the manufacturer. The optical construction of the Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM consists of thirteen elements in ten groups, including two ‘extremely aspherical’, or XA, and three extra-low dispersion, or ED, elements.

Sony uses a newly designed Direct Drive SSM motor for the lens, which should allow faster accurate focusing. The manual focus provides linear response. The lens is also resistant to dust and moisture, with a fluorine coating on the front element.

The FE 24mm F1.4 GM will appear in October for a suggested retail price of 1,600 euros.
