Sony has shipped 21.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide, according to the company’s recent quarterly figures. Between January and March of this year, retailers purchased approximately 2.4 million consoles.

The sales figure of 21.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles sold was achieved at the end of June 2022. This puts the console slightly behind the sales figures of the PlayStation 4. It was released in November 2013 and had sold approximately 25.3 million copies by June 2015. Deliveries are still lagging due to the ongoing chip shortage, while demand for the consoles remains. Sony has stopped keeping track of the sales figures of the PlayStation 4. The total number of copies sold therefore remains at 117 million.

Games & Network Services segment revenue declined 2% from the same quarter last year. According to Sony, this is because fewer games are being sold, from both its own game studios and third parties. Operating income fell 3.5 billion yen, 37 percent, for the same reason. The company expects that operating costs will increase, partly due to the purchase of Destiny developer Bungie.
