Sony gives PlayStation 4 owners 10GB of online storage

Sony has released an update to the PlayStation 4 system software. Version number VSH3.00 codenamed ‘Kenshin’ comes with a host of new features, including 10GB of online storage for PlayStation Plus members with a PS4.

Sony writes this on its PlayStation blog. The various options have already been rolled out to beta testers, but are now also available to normal users. In addition to the extra storage capacity, PlayStation 4 owners can stream their gameplay live via Youtube. The streams are therefore visible on the Youtube Gaming website and other Youtube channels. PlayStation owners could already stream their gameplay to Twitch and Ustream.

The extra storage space and the new streaming options aren’t the only noticeable changes. There is also a new events hub, which shows an overview of the activities that take place around the games that are played the most, such as a ‘double XP weekend’ in which a game can earn extra experience points on a specific time.

The Friends app now allows you to add a favorite group, which should make it easier to find the people a player likes to play with. Access to online communities has also been facilitated and Twitter has been added to the social environment: a user can share 10-second long video clips directly via Twitter. The increasingly popular ‘stickers’ within social media can now also be sent via the PlayStation message box. It is now also possible to save screenshots as PNG.
