Sony gives high-end devices since Xperia Z2 update to Android 6.0
Sony gives all high-end Xperia Z devices since the Z2 from the first half of 2014 an update to Android 6.0. The support for the Xperia Z and Z1 series will therefore expire. They received updates up to Android 5.1.
In addition to the high-end Xperia Z devices, some less expensive devices from this year, the M4 Aqua, M5, C4 and C5 Ultra, will also receive an update to Android 6.0. Many midrange models from last year seem to fall by the wayside.
In addition to Android 6.0, Sony invariably adds its own features to such major updates, but promises to come back to them later. It will also announce more about the schedule at a later date. Sony promises that the updates will come out ‘as soon as possible’, but when that is is unknown.
Sony is the fourth known manufacturer to announce update plans after Google, Motorola and HTC. HTC gives devices from the One M8 an update, while Motorola does that from its Moto G and Moto X from 2014, although the American manufacturer does not update its Moto E 2015.
