Sony equips new televisions with Android TV
At the CES trade show in Las Vegas, Sony presented its new televisions for 2015. The new 4k televisions are equipped with Android TV and get a special processor to improve the image quality.
The most eye-catching new Sony TV is the thin X90C, which will be available with screen diagonals of 55″ and 65″ and features a UHD image panel. According to Sony, the X90C is the thinnest LCD television in the world, because the thickness, measured at its thinnest point, is only 4.9 millimeters. Sony also supplies a special bracket with which the TV can be hung on a wall without any space in between. To enable tight wall mounting, ventilation slots are only available at the top and bottom of the housing.
Sony’s 2015 4k panel televisions all feature Sony’s ‘X1’ processor, which should improve brightness, color and contrast of the source material. According to Sony, the image quality of source material of lower quality is thus upgraded to ‘almost 4k quality’. In addition, all televisions with a 4k panel are equipped with Android TV. The new W75C, W80C and W85C models, which are equipped with a full-HD panel, will also receive Android TV. Cheaper full-HD televisions have to make do with Sony’s own smart TV software. The new models will be available from February.
