Sony delays shutting down Gravity Rush 2 servers by six months after complaints
The servers for PS4 game Gravity Rush 2 will remain online for six months longer. Initially, Sony wanted to pull the plug in a few days, then exactly a year after the release of the game. The game has no multiplayer, but online elements such as leaderboards and treasure hunts.
In addition to leaderboards and treasure hunts, the online elements of Gravity Rush 2 also include the ability to share in-game photos with random players who can reward them with points. These online elements are also required to unlock certain costumes in the game. All in all, the online elements are most reminiscent of those of, for example, the Dark Souls titles, but without the co-op and invasions.
Sony announced earlier in 2017 that it plans to pull the plug on its servers, but a campaign by fans of the game appears to have paid off, Polygon said. Instead of January 19, the servers will now shut down on July 19, which will at least give players more time to experience the full game.
The suspension of online support for the game so soon after release could be a sign of disappointing sales for the game, which does not raise hope for a sequel. An example at the other end of the spectrum is PS3 game Demon’s Souls, whose servers will go black in February, nine years after its release.
