Sony closes YouTube channels due to No Man’s Sky material

Sony manually sends copyright claims to YouTubers who talk about No Man’s Sky, without showing any material released before the official release date. A Hello Games employee admitted the error.

Due to the copyright claims, some YouTube channels of YouTubers who only talk about the game and do not show any further material that is currently prohibited by Sony have been closed. Sony has been in the process of having videos removed that show leaked material before the official release date for some time now.

On Twitter, Sean Murray, founder of Hello Games and creator of No Man’s Sky, said: indicated that we are working with Sony to get the accidentally deleted videos back online as soon as possible and to let YouTubers manage their channels again.

For example, YouTuber Steven Thomas, aka No Man’s Sky Gamer, was subjected to a so-called strike by YouTube for having old live streams as images on his channel and also talking about new updates or showing images from the game’s website, VG writes. 24/7.

It was extra sour for this gamer because he would be streaming a special live broadcast for the Make A Wish Foundation that requires his channel to be released in a timely manner. Otherwise, he’ll turn to Twitch, but that could potentially cut down on charitable donations.

Another major YouTube channel, The Know, was also taken off the air in early August due to a copyright claim from Sony, but came back online fairly quickly, with apologies from the Japanese entertainment giant.

No Man’s Sky will be released in Europe on August 10 for PlayStation 4 and August 12 for Windows.
