Sony CEO: There’s no Fortnite crossplay because PS4 offers the best ‘experience’
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida says there will be no crossplay between PlayStation users and players on other consoles within the Fortnite game, because he believes the gaming experience is better on the PS4. Yoshida gave no substantive argument.
For example, the CEO said he believes Fortnite in combination with the Sony console can “provide the best experience for users,” writes The Independent based on a report from Press Association. The decision on whether a game will have cross-play capabilities would depend on what’s best for the user experience, he added. The reporting does not indicate how crossplay would have a negative impact on the gaming experience.
The fact that PlayStation 4 owners can’t play Fortnite with people on other consoles has brought some criticism from Sony. In addition, players who have once logged into a PS4 with their Fortnite accounts will not be able to log into that account on other platforms, such as the Nintendo Switch or the Xbox One, afterwards. Sony has indicated in the past that it is looking for a solution for this, but so far nothing has been announced about it. Sony is also difficult about crossplay with other games, such as Rocket League.
Fortnite now has 125 million players and was recently released for Android. In doing so, Epic Games bypasses Google’s Play Store.
