Sony appears to remove 8K claim from PlayStation 5 box
Sony appears to have removed the claim that PlayStation 5 consoles can play games in 8K resolution from the console's box. The company itself has not yet acknowledged this. It is not clear what the reason is for the disappearance of the 8K logo.
John Linneman of Digital Foundry noticed that the PlayStation 5 packaging no longer appears to have an 8K logo. On the Sony website official images of the box can be seen and the icon is indeed no longer there. For comparison, the Pricewatch lists various PlayStation 5 variants that still have '8K' on the box.
Sony advertised support for 8K displays when the PlayStation 5 was released at the end of 2020, but since then hardly any games have been released that support this resolution at all. According to Eurogamer Sony is removing the 8K claim in the run-up to the announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which, according to previous rumors, should support this resolution.
