Sony announces wireless headset for PlayStation 4
Sony has announced the Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0. The wireless headset is intended for owners of a PlayStation 4 and offers a microphone in addition to 7.1 virtual surround sound. Additionally, Sony is releasing the 1.6 firmware update for the PS4 console.
The Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 can be used wirelessly via a USB adapter with, among other things, a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC and Mac. According to Sony, the headphones can also be used with, for example, a Vita handheld due to the available 3.5 mm mini-jack connection. The battery would last up to 8 hours.
Sony also reports that the headset is foldable and therefore easy to take with you. An update to the headset companion app, due soon on the PlayStation Store, would include various profiles for playing certain game titles or watching movies, as well as offering an equalizer that can be further configured by the user. A sound profile for the upcoming game Infamous Second Son is said to be available already.
The new headset will be available on February 10 and will retail for $90 in the US. The euro price has not yet been announced by Sony. The upcoming 1.6 firmware update should allow compatibility of the PS4 with the older Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset. Sony also reports that the PlayStation App on iOS and Android can now show live game videos from Ustream and Twitch.
