Sony announces A68 SLR camera with 79 focus points
Sony has announced a new SLT camera with lens mount for A-lens. Like the A77 II, the A68 will have a 24.3-megapixel sensor with 79 autofocus points. However, the housing is more compact than the top model. From March 2016, the camera is for sale for 600 euros.
The new Sony SLT-A68 can be seen as the smaller and cheaper brother of the SLT-A77 II, which Sony introduced in 2014. It is the direct successor of the SLT-A65. Compared to its predecessor, the stabilized aps-c sensor of 24.3 megapixels remains. The chip can be set from 100 to 25,600 iso. Photographing is possible at a maximum speed of 8 fps, filming is possible in a 1080p resolution with 30, 25 or 24 fps at a maximum bit rate of 50 Mbit/s. Like the other SLT cameras, the A68 has a stabilized sensor. The image stabilization can be used both during filming and when taking pictures.
Like the more expensive A77 II, the SLT-A68 gets an autofocus system with 79 phase-detection focus points and it is possible to focus at light values of ev-2. The fifteen center focal points are extra sensitive intersections. The SLT-68 is an SLR camera with a semi-transparent mirror. As a result, the mirror does not have to be folded up to take a photo. There is also no optical, but an electronic viewfinder in the camera. It is an OLED viewfinder with 1.44 million pixels, or a resolution of 1024×768 pixels. The 2.7″ screen on the back of the housing is tiltable and has a resolution of 480×320 pixels. On top of the device is a monochrome LCD that shows the most important settings.
Sony gives the housing of the SLT-A68 the same rotary wheel as is also used on the A7 devices. In addition, there are ten adjustable function buttons. Without lens, but with battery and memory card, the camera weighs 690 grams. Sony will not directly market the A68, the device should be in stores in March 2016. The separate body will have a suggested retail price of 600 euros, a kit with 18-55 mm lens will cost 700 euros.
