Sony will make a new system camera available in February: the A6400. The camera with 24.2-megapixel sensor has a tilting touchscreen and offers autofocus in 0.02 seconds.

The A6400 shares several features with its predecessor, the A6300 announced in early 2016. For example, it is a camera with a 24.2-megapixel sensor with 425 focus points. The system camera can take 11 photos per second, with full autofocus, and can do this silently at 8fps.

The improvements include the image processing processor, which is a Bionz X of the last generation. This also improves the autofocus. Focusing is done in 0.02 seconds and there is improved object recognition for live subject tracking. The A6400 can also detect the eyes of objects to track them.

The ISO range for still images is 50 to 102,400, 100 to 32,000 in other cases. The camera can film in 4k, which, according to the manufacturer, can quickly focus again. For HDR playback, the camera stores an HLG image profile and for slow-motion images, it is possible to shoot at 120 fps, although this is only possible at full HD resolution. The bit rate is then 100Mbit/s.

Also new is that the LCD can tilt 180 degrees. Users can indicate the desired focus points on the touchscreen. Sony will start selling the A6400 in February. The price of the body is then 1050 euros. In combination with the SELP1650 lens, the price is 1150 euros and with the SEL18135 lens the amount comes to 1450 euros.
