Sony 400 mm f/2.8 OSS for system cameras will be released in September for 12,000 euros
Sony has announced its 400mm f/2.8 OSS lens for mirrorless E-mount cameras. The Japanese manufacturer builds the telephoto lens for professional sports and nature photographers on request for 12,000 euros.
According to Sony, the weight of the FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS lens is 2.9kg, making it relatively light compared to 400mm f/2.8 lenses for DSLRs. The latest 400mm f/2.8 lenses from Canon and Nikon for DSLRs weigh around 3.8kg. The lens contains two focus motors, which according to Sony make fast autofocus possible. There is also optical image stabilization.
With the introduction of the Sony A7R III system camera in October last year, Sony announced the development of the 400mm f/2.8 lens. Aimed at professional sports and wildlife photographers, the lens is primarily intended for use in conjunction with the Sony A9 camera, which can shoot photos at 20fps. That device will receive new firmware, with optimizations for the 400mm lens.
