Sonos Announces Playbase Speaker for TVs
Sonos has announced a new speaker called Playbase. The device is intended to be placed under a TV, which is for example on a piece of furniture. The speaker can connect wirelessly, just like the previous Playbar.
In the announcement, Sonos reports that the Playbase stems from the fact that most users do not have the TV on the wall. As a result, the predecessor, the Playbar, would only be interesting for a small group of users. The new speaker has a height of 58 mm and has ten drivers, six of which are midrange, three tweeters and a woofer.
In addition, there are two wired connections: one for power and the other for an optical audio connection. In addition, a wireless connection can be made to the Sonos home network, so that the speaker can be used with various services. Support for voice control via an Alexa device should be added later in the year.
The speaker will be available worldwide on April 4 and can be pre-ordered by existing Sonos users. The device is available in black and white and costs 799 euros.
Update: Euro price added.
