Sonos has added the previously announced Trueplay feature to its iOS app. By measuring the acoustics of the room in which the Sonos speaker is located with the microphone of an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, the audio reproduction can be adjusted automatically.

At the end of September, Sonos announced the Trueplay function, now the manufacturer has released an update for its iOS app Sonos Controller, which incorporates the promised functionality. The calibration tool works in conjunction with a device running iOS 7 or newer and can adjust the sound reproduction of the Sonos Play:1, Play:3 and Play:5 to the room in which it is located.

Sonos does this by emitting a tone and recording it with the iOS device’s microphone. For example, the acoustics of the room can be determined and, according to the manufacturer, the settings are then adjusted in such a way that the sound always sounds the same, regardless of the position of the speaker.

Currently, Trueplay only works with Sonos Play speakers. At the time of the introduction, the manufacturer stated that the functionality would later also be available for the other speakers of the brand. It is not known whether Sonos’ Android app will also receive Trueplay later.
