Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy can’t get enough of the blue hedgehog on the silver screen. The live-action film Sonic The Hedgehog was released in February and the companies have announced that a sequel is in the works.

The two companies have confirmed that development of a second film has begun, reports film site Variety. Jeff Fowler, the director of the first film, also has the arrival of a second film confirmed on Twitter. The same team that was responsible for the first would be working on this film. As the project is still in the development phase, no final decisions have been made about the cast or a production start date. As a result, it is, for example, still unknown whether actor Jim Carrey will return and take on the role of villain Dr. Robotnik.

Sonic The Hedgehog was released in February. The film should have been released in the US in November last year, but that was postponed after there was a fuss about the rendering of Sonic in May last year. Paramount then released a first trailer and many fans thought that Sonic looked very different from in the games. Based on the trailer, the blue hedgehog in the movie version would take on a human-like lanky appearance, without the blue hedgehog’s signature big eyes. Due to the criticism, the release of the Sonic film was postponed.
