Somfy, manufacturer of wireless control systems for home automation, presented the Somfy Outdoor Camera. This security camera can use AI to distinguish people from animals and possibly set off a siren to deter burglars.

Once a human form is detected, a built-in loudspeaker warns that the intruder is in a secure area. The owner of the home can then address the intruder directly via the loudspeaker. The siren, with a maximum volume of 110dB, can then be activated manually. This can also be done automatically, after a preset time. Homeowners can temporarily switch off the alarm when they return home via a smartphone app or a badge for the key fob.

The camera has a full HD resolution and works both during the day and at night, thanks in part to the built-in infrared LEDs. The Oudoor Camera should also have no problems with any flare from the sun or with shady places, because the camera can record images in HDR and can thus compensate for places with too little or too much light. The device also has a special night vision function.

Somfy reports that photos or videos are automatically recorded as soon as motion is detected, after which the footage is stored on a secure server environment, according to the manufacturer. After that, the material can be viewed and downloaded for free for 24 hours.

The Somfy Outdoor Camera is not only compatible with TaHoma’s own apps for home automation products, but also with other smart home systems, such as Homekit, Alexa and Google Home. The camera will be available from the summer of 2018 and will have a suggested retail price of 249 euros.
