Somfy adds local API support to Connexoon hub
Smart home manufacturer Somfy is adding support for developer mode to the Connexoon hub, giving users the option to access the local API. As a result, the cloud API is no longer necessary.
On GitHub reports a Somfy employee that new firmware has been released: version 2022.6.4-13. There is now support for using the local API. To enable developer mode, users must log in to the Somfy website and an activation button for this mode must be visible at the bottom of the box intended for the Connexoon.
Several GitHub users are responding enthusiastically to this addition. Support for this is a feature that has been requested for some time, especially because the cloud API does not always work satisfactorily. In 2020, the manufacturer even threatened bans if users overloaded Somfy’s API with scripts or third-party apps. According to the company, users of the Somfy hubs TaHoma and Connexoon could be affected by a small group of users overloading the API. TaHoma already received support last year for addressing the local API.
Somfy’s own app will probably still run via the cloud. Support for developer mode and therefore the use of the local API allows users to exercise local control via, for example, Home Assistant. For specifically Home Assistant worked on integration of the local API. This will be done via the Overkiz integration platform developed by Somfy, which allows users to integrate their devices with Home Assistant via the Overkiz API.
