Some online services of the city of Antwerp are operational again
As of today, residents of the city of Antwerp can again use some online city services after they were hit by a cyber attack. However, many digital services still remain offline.
According to Datanews As of today, residents of Antwerp can again request certificates, deeds and extracts via the e-counter of the city. It is also possible to report illegal dumping, nuisance or graffiti online again information from the city.
Yet many online city services are still offline after the cyber attack at the beginning of December. For example, it is still not possible to buy tickets online for Antwerp museums and cultural centers and to apply for parking bans and resident cards. Permits for the low-emission zone cannot be applied for online for the time being. Because the digital appointment tool of the Antwerp police is still down, the local police have opened four extra offices where residents can be helped without an appointment.
At the beginning of December, the IT systems of the city of Antwerp were hit by a cyber attack by hacker group Play. That group has stolen 557 gigabytes of data and threatens to publish that data on the dark web on December 19 if Antwerp does not pay the requested ransom. It is not known how much ransom is demanded. The data would contain a lot of private information from Antwerp residents.
