Download Xfire 1.56

Spread the love

Xfire is aimed at avid gamers and allows them to chat with others both inside and outside different games. One can easily see which game the people on the contact list are playing in and then simply add themselves to that game. Xfire can also help you find a fast game server with free places, game patches and demos can be downloaded via your own p2p network and there is the option of voice chat. More than 550 games are currently supported, of which 157 ‘one click join’ and 339 ‘in game chat’ support. The developers have released version 1.56 with the following list of changes:

Version 1.56:

  • Added real gaming statistics (eg kill/death ratios) for Quake 3. Available on profile pages starting on May 18, 2006, with more to come.
  • Added the ability to change your downloads directory under Tools | Options | Traffic jams.
  • Added remote screenshots to the files tab. They update automatically when you edit your screenshots via the Xfire application or on the website.
  • Added a menu option in the Windows Explorer Send To menu to send files through Xfire.
  • Added the zone to the infoview for City of Heroes and City of Villains.
  • Added the ability for friends of friends to see your “game client data” (realm for World of Warcraft, etc.).
  • Removed the very confusing Find Installed Software dialog. Use the Tools | Options | Games dialog to configure your nonstandard game installations.
  • Improved the interface and fixed numerous small bugs with sending files to friends.
  • Fixed numerous small bugs with Universal Plug and Play support.
  • Fixed some data duplication issues with the Battlefield 2 infoview.
  • Added an SDK for game developers to use to display extra data about a game within Xfire.
  • New games supported:
    • Titan Quest Demo
    • Condemned – Criminal Origins
    • 2006 FIFA World Cup
    • Dangerous Waters
    • Dune 2000
    • Emperor – Battle for Dune
    • Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Demo
    • Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter
    • Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri
    • Winning Eleven 9
    • Call of Cthulhu DCoTE
    • The Settlers IV
    • Hearts of Iron II Doomsday
    • UberSoldier
    • Dungeon Keeper 2
    • Tycoon City – New York
    • crash day
    • Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland
    • Rise of Legends
    • and Sin Episodes – Emergence.

Technical Notes:

  • Fixed some problems with non-ASCII characters in xfire: urls for setting your game client data or text status.
  • Fixed a problem with non-alphanumeric characters (such as spaces) in keys for game client data.
  • Moved the downloads directories around a little bit–all files go in the normal downloads directory (or wherever you now configure it to be), and the metadata and archive directories are now subdirectories of it.
  • More progress on XML skins, but still nothing user visible. I’m not going to make any more promises on the time frame at this point.

Note: we delayed this release by a week so as to avoid E3.
