Download WordPress 3.8.2

While work on version 3.9 of WordPress is progressing steadily, an update for version 3.8 has been released. With this program, which is made available under a GPL license, it is possible to set up and maintain a weblog. WordPress is easy to set up and can be up and running in under five minutes if a server with PHP and MySQL is already available. There are possibilities to further extend the functionality of WordPress, in addition to blogging, and improve the appearance with plugins and themes to adjust. In version 3.8, the admin page should respond faster, the dashboard has been improved and the customization of the themes has been completely renewed. Version 3.8.2 should, among other things, fix an important security problem.

WordPress 3.8.2 Security Release

WordPress 3.8.2 is now available. This is an important security release for all previous versions and we strongly encourage you to update your sites immediately.

This releases fixes a weakness that could let an attacker force their way into your site by forging authentication cookies. This was discovered and fixed by Jon Cave of the WordPress security team.

It also contains a fix to prevent a user with the Contributor role from improperly publishing posts. Reported by vinegar.

This release also fixes nine bugs and contains three other security hardening changes:

• Pass along additional information when processing pingbacks to help hosts identify potentially abusive requests.
• Fix a low-impact SQL injection by trusted users. Reported by Tom Adams or dxw.
• Prevent possible cross-domain scripting through Pupload, the third-party library WordPress uses for uploading files. Reported by Szymon Gruszeckic.
