After a new stable release last week, Wine’s usual new development build came out this weekend. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows you to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, and macOS. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable edition is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without the help of minor adjustments, contains 27,343 titles at the time of writing. Since build 5.13, the following changes and improvements have been made:

What’s new in release 5.14:

  • More reconstruction of the console support.
  • Initial version of the Webdings font.
  • Beginnings of PE conversion of the MSVCRT libraries.
  • Various bug fixes.

What’s new in release 5.15:

  • Initial implementation of the XACT Engine libraries.
  • Beginnings of a math library in MSVCRT based on Musl.
  • Still more restructuring of the console support.
  • Direct Input performance improvements.
  • Exception handling fixes on x86-64.
  • Various bug fixes.
