A new development build of Wine has been released with version number 4.21. Wine is an open source implementation of the Windows API and allows to run DOS and Windows programs on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and macOS. A large group of developers contribute to Wine and it has been decided to release a new so-called development version every two weeks instead of waiting for a number of new functions to be ready. A stable release is published a few times a year. The database with applications that work under Wine, with or without minor adjustments, contains 26,720 titles at the time of writing. Since version 4.19 the following changes and improvements have been made:

What’s new in release 4.21:

  • HTTP proxy configuration through DHCP.
  • Parameter block support in D3DX9.
  • A few more dlls converted to PE.
  • Various bug fixes.

What’s new in release 4.20:

  • New version of the Mono engine with an FNA update.
  • Code persistence in VBScript and JScript.
  • Vulkan spec updates.
  • Improved support for LLVM MinGW.
  • Various bug fixes.
