At the end of May of this year, it was announced that the next version of Windows Media Player, which could be identified by version number 11 and codename Aurora, would not be developed further. Windows Vista’s media player called Polaris would replace it with a number of new features that would also be in WMP11. Microsoft is expected to release a first beta version of Polaris in November, along with Beta 2 of Windows Vista. The first final version of the new Media Player is expected in early 2006.
