Download WinAce 2.6 beta 2

Version 2.6 beta 2 of the eponymous archiving program can be found on the WinAce support forum. New in version 2.6 is ZIP64 support, which makes it possible to create archives with a size of more than 4GB. Furthermore, AES encryption is now used and the new multi volume format of WinZIP 9.0 is now also supported. The changelog, where the beta 2 part was only in German, looks like this:

WinAce 2.6 beta 1 – List of changes

• Added support for the extended Zip64 format, allowing to create ZIP files beyond the 4GB size barrier. Zip64 files may now also include more than 65535 files.
• Added AES password encryption for ZIP archives.
• Added compatibility to Winzip’s multivolume ZIP archives while still maintaining backward compatibility to ZIP multivolume archives created with previous versions of WinAce.
• New features:
  • Encryption of files without actually creating an archive
  • Use 8 different encryption algorithms to securely encrypt your files without the need to compress them. The filenames can be scrambled Optionally as well for better protection. Files compressed with Windows will have the extension .xef and can be opened in WinAce directly.
• Full support for UUEncode, XXEncode and Base64 en/decoding. *.uue, *.xxe, *.mim file types can be linked to WinAce.
• User defined volume sizes can now be stores in an .ini file (volume.ini).
• It is now possible to enter volume sizes >2GB
• WinAce now interprets volume sizes according to the suffix (kB, MB) and displays the exact volume size.
• Files or file types can now be excluded when using the command line. -x” rel=”external”>Date/@List

Changes in the GUI

• Taskbar is now matching Windows XP style
• Added a “Pause”-button in the progress dialog window Operations may now be paused and continued if CPU time is required for another application.
• Internal information pages have been renamed from *.htm to *.whf.
• Added new default icons for Sfx-Modules in order to set them visually apart from normal archives.
• Input line for Archive/Directory can be disabled.
• Added password protection for multiple ACE archives.

Fixed in this version

• Problems with filenames >220 characters when using the shell extension.
• Passwords are encrypted before storing them in project files.
• Fixed an error concerning timestamps when updating archives.
• Problems with certain ISO images.
