Download VLC Media Player 2.0.2
VideoLAN has released a second update for version 2.0 of VLC Media Player. This open source and cross platform media player can play various audio, video and streaming formats without the need to install the appropriate codec. Downloads are available for Windows and Mac OS X, while the source code should also make the program usable for operating systems such as Linux, BSD and Solaris. A version for Android is still in development.
Version 2.0, codenamed ‘Twoflower’, is a lot faster on systems equipped with a multicore processor, among other things. Furthermore, it supports more media formats, subtitles are displayed in better quality and there is experimental support for Blu-ray discs. In version 2.0.2, the following changes and improvements have also been made:
2.0.2 specific changes
- Rework of the Mac OS X interface
- Fix video output for old graphic cards on Windows XP, which are using DirectX
- Fix video output on old Macs, notably PowerPC and GMA950 intel Macs.
- Support for HiDPI, aka Retina Display
- Support for H264 v4l2 devices on Linux
- Translations updates and new Scottish Gaelic translation
- Fixes for splitted RAR, MKV segmented, mp4 and Real media files playback.
- Rewrite of the Digital TV module on Windows
- Enhancements in HLS, Blu-Ray and various codecs support
- Fixes for subtitles auto-detection
- Fixes on Qt, skins2 and web interfaces
