The developers of VideoLAN have released an update for the version 1.1.7 of VLC Media Player, which was released two months ago. This open source cross platform media player can play a variety of audio, video and streaming formats without having to install the appropriate codec. VLC Media Player is available for Windows 2000 and above, Linux, Mac OS X and BSD. Older versions are also available for Windows 9x, BeOS, Morphos, and Windows CE, among others. Since version 1.1.1 there is DxVA2 hardware acceleration in combination with ATi video cards, provided that at least version 10.7 of the Catalyst drivers is used.
