VLC Media Player is an open source and cross platform media player that can play various audio, video and streaming formats without having to install the appropriate codec. Version 0.9.8a has recently been released for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, which closes a security vulnerability and fixes a number of unknown minor bugs.
